About the Item

A Greek Peloponnese olive oil jar with the typical handcrafted ribbed Nekuma decoration on its round bodice. The white-washed patina was applied to protect the terracotta clay from harsh weather conditions or to cool food and olive oil during the summertime. These antique garden pottery vessels were often used for storage and transportation. Minor fading and scratches due to the age. Wear consistent with age and use. Circa late 19th Century. Opening 11"
