Primitive raku vessel by Kelly Fuenning, an American studio ceramic artist known for her expressive, sculptural approach to raku-fired pottery. Hand-thrown with a richly textured reddish-brown surface and molten, organic handle, this striking piece merges primitive craftsmanship with modern abstraction — both vessel and sculpture in one.
The body reveals deep earthy tones with natural pitting and ash deposits from the firing process, contrasted by a lighter raku-glazed base incised with bold linear carvings. The surface bears the hallmarks of the raku technique — crackle, texture, and variation that lend the piece its raw, ancient energy. Fuenning’s signature is incised to the underside.
