About the Item
A rustic bark pattern or ‘faux bois’ handcrafted coil vase. Unsigned and the period unclear, but I would say 1980s.
Superb with large floral arrangements or branches in it. Generous size, heavy and very stable. Water-fast as it has a complete interior glaze.
This substantial pot gives crunchy texture and drenched chocolate brown color. The generous size lends it strong presence, with a broad, stable shape, a sense of weight and a grounded, earthy quality.
Don't be put off by the crudely made mouth of the vase. It's clearly been made for floral display, as it's been carefully glazed to the interior and holds a good few pints of water. Once holding flowers, the vase becomes the 'trunk' to the branches and blossoms or leaves. It's a deceptively attractive vase and very much suited for everyday floral display.
This highly textured vase goes really well with other pots and contrasts beautifully with smooth objects and polished surfaces. Can also go completely rustic or even anchor an outdoor table setting. Very appealing.
Note the other small, handled, caramel pot shown in the images for this listing is by the same (unknown) artist and the two work beautifully as a pair. Listed separately.
Also of note, this is a rustic pot, hand coiled, imperfectly shaped and has small chips and glaze omissions visible on the surface (see images). These are not very noticeable amid the rough texture.
There are no cracks. The vase has been tested, is water-fast with a fully glazed interior. Unsigned and no maker stamp.
