About the Item

A stunning and extremely high quality French 19th century Louis XVI st. Belle Époque period Onyx and ormolu urn. The urn is raised by an elegant square ormolu base with cut fluted corners, fine arbalest shaped sides, a wrap around beaded band, and striking richly chased foliate designs at the socle shaped pedestal support. The remarkable onyx body displays a most decorative mottled wrap around design with exquisite beautiful ormolu winged maidens at each side amidst intricately detailed acanthus leaves and foliate garlands in a rich satin and burnished finish at each side. The top border displays a mottled wrap around ormolu band with charming rosettes and finely chased berried laurel branches. All original gilt throughout.
