Pair of 19th Century French Gilt Bronze Bacchanalian Ewers with Cherubs
A fine and decorative pair of French gilt bronze ewers in the Renaissance Revival taste, richly cast with Bacchanalian scenes of playful putti amid vines and grapes. Each ewer features a naturalistic handle formed as a fruiting branch, surmounted by a seated cherub playing a flute above a small bird. The casting is of very good quality throughout, with crisp detailing to the figural reliefs, foliage, and acanthus-moulded bases.
Originally made as decorative bronzes, the ewers were later adapted for use as lamp bases, with threaded fittings and drilled lower sections.

Both measure 17 x 11 x 43.5 (height) cm
Condition: Good decorative condition overall, with some rubbing to the gilding, oxidation, and surface wear consistent with age and use. Old lamp conversions with drilled hole to the base and later rod within. Some looseness.
