About the Item

This pair of cassolettes is crafted in fine Carrara marble and mounted with detailed gilt bronze decorations. Each piece stands on a shaped marble base decorated with a gilt bronze frieze of leaves. The tripod supports feature classical ram heads and hoofed feet, with finely cast details throughout. The upper section is encircled by a decorative bronze frieze that enhances the classical profile of the pieces. The marble bowls are fitted with removable lids, each finished with a pinecone-shaped finial (graine) and surrounded by a beaded bronze border. When opened, the interior reveals a smooth gilt metal lining, still bright and intact, indicating the pair was originally intended for potpourri or aromatic materials. Highly decorative and well-balanced, this pair is ideal for flanking a mantel clock, sculpture, or any refined centerpiece. Napoleon III period.
