About the Item
A stunning and very high quality pair of French 19th century Louis XVI st. Brèche Violette marble and Ormolu lidded urns. Each large scale urn is raised by a square bottom Ormolu fillet below the marble base accented with a beaded Ormolu band. An impressive Ormolu foliate band decorates the base of the socle shaped pedestal above. The solid Brèche Violette marble body is encased with luxuriant palmettes at the base and exceptional most impressive richly chased intertwined snakes leading up each side with intricately detailed scales in a superb satin and burnished finish. Above is the elegantly curved neck with additional finely detailed foliate bands and acorn finials. All original gilt throughout.
