About the Item

A very finely cast French Napoleon III bronze garland festooned cassolettes with grotesque mask handles raised on round stepped griotte marble bases. The urn shaped body of the cassolettes is in patinated bronze and decorated with frolicking puttis in a festive ceremony centred around riding on and the pulling of a lion by a rope. The scene is from an 18 Century sculpture executed by Claude Michel Clodion. The lids and necks are crafted of gilt bronze. The lids come off to reveal a gilded container. .
