Edwardian Classical sterling silver covered urn. Made by Dominick
Haff in New York in 1901. Baluster bowl with leaf-capped and -mounted double-scroll side handles. Cover domed with bud finial with applied leaf surround; foot raised and bellied. Applied acanthus leaf and leaf-and-dart borders as well as cast egg-and-dart rims. Traditional form super-sized. Massive Gilded Age opulence. Fully marked including dated maker’s stamp and no. 1522 as well volume (23 pts). Very heavy weight: 214 troy ounces.
