About the Item

A stunning, one-of-a-kind handcrafted vase carved from rich Moroccan Thuya burl wood. Created in Essaouira—the historic center and "Mecca" of Thuya woodworking in Morocco—this piece showcases the intricate, swirling grain patterns unique to the root of the Thuya tree. Masterfully constructed with a hexagonal form, the vase features multiple geometric facets intentionally angled to catch the light and highlight the natural warmth of the timber. While the hexagonal shape references classic Moorish geometry, the overall aesthetic is distinctly influenced by the bold, architectural lines of the 1980s Art Deco Revival and Postmodern movements. Thuya burl is an exotic wood indigenous to the Atlas Mountains of Northwest Africa. Known for its durability and aromatic scent, it is highly prized for its "eyes" and complex figuring, making this piece as much a natural sculpture as it is a functional object. Origin: Essaouira, Morocco Material: Solid Thuya Burl Wood (Root Wood) Period: Vintage / 1980s Style: Art Deco Revival / Moroccan / Geometric Curated by Mādda.
