About the Item
Add this elegant antique Majolica ewer to your faience collection. Crafted in France, circa 1870, and attributed to the French artist Thomas Sergent, the tall "Aiguiere" dressed with a snake shape handle, stands on a round base embellished with foliage, and features a wide leaf shaped mouth over a elongated neck. The carafe is decorated with medallions of lion and mask faces in high relief surrounded with foliage motifs. The colorful urn is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorn soft colors in the blue, green and yellow palette. Place this colorful vessel on a buffet or a console for the ultimate country French look!
Thomas-Victor Sergent, (1830-1890) was a French artist and ceramist, and an important member of the School of Paris; in 1870, he established his studio and shop south of Paris. Throughout his career, he participated at several International exhibitions in London, Vienna and Amsterdam. He was mainly known for his platters, vases and tobacco jars.
