About the Item
Named after the designer's memory of a trip to India, the India Vase's graceful form is the perfect marriage of an emerging industrial technology and Italian craftsmanship.
Made of a biodegradable non-toxic thermoplastic derived from renewable resources like corn starch, the color of the collection derives from its natural component. The India Vase is made of 70% Sicialian tomato peel waste and 30% of PLA, the polylactic acid derived from renewable resources like maize and compostable in industrial facilities.
By using the newest 3D printing techniques the objects folds, swells, moves and takes shape in a surface that can feel like fabric to the touch.
Fornice Objects uses a technology that’s rapid, repeatable and rigorous to make bold yet ethereal statements.
This piece is not water-resistant and may be used as sculpture or only for dried flowers.
The pleated surfaces seems like fabric at first glance, only weighting 300 grams.

Fornice Objects
"Fornice" in the Italian dictionary of architecture represents the light passing through the arches. Just after graduating University of the Arts, Italian Spatial Designer Chiara Ravaioli gave light to her project, Fornice Objects, which explores the link between materials research and the use of latest modeling software applied to analogue printing techniques. She uses fast, repeatable and rigorous technology to make bold yet ethereal statements. Despite the fact that it is made using technological machinery, the human component is prevalent.
In fact, each piece is made uniquely, slowly with machinery and hands, silently negotiating two contradictory elements such as porcelain and 3D printing. In the lightness of its forms, Fornice Objects designs search for a reference in today's world; it is thus transformed into the story that is explored and then returned to its most essential materials, which at times become soft, bend, colour and come alive.
