Åke Holm (1900–1980), Höganäs.
Large stoneware vase with turquoise, black and green glaze.
Relief decoration with a stylised mask surrounded by swirling ornaments.
Signed on the underside with Åke Holm’s monogram and incised “A. Holm, 25 pcs, No I”.
H. 53 cm, D. 32 cm.
Period: circa 1950s–1960s.
Condition: Very good condition with minor age-related traces.
An impressive and rare example of Holm’s expressive stoneware works, executed in a very limited edition.
Åke Holm (1900–1980) was a Swedish ceramicist and sculptor based in Höganäs. Trained at Höganäsbolaget, he later established his own studio where he created stoneware works in religious and figurative forms, often inspired by biblical motifs. His powerful expression and experimental glazes have made him one of the most distinctive Swedish ceramicists of the 20th century.
