About the Item
A fabulous American studio ceramic vase, probably from the 1980s, signed indistinctly to base.
This vase has been beautifully hand made in an elegant form with a wonderful mix textures. The black body is textured, and anchored by a border of raised cotton-ball like cumulous clouds that float above a mountain range below. The mountain range has been incised, painted and glazed in earth and water tones.
This is a very striking piece with a great sculptural feel and sense of texture. While the exterior is mostly unglazed, the interior is glazed so the vase can be used to hold a decorative arrangement of flowers or branches.
The vase has a great vintage, organic modern feel to it- and would be an eye catching statement piece on a rustic wood mantle or shelf, or a charming centerpiece to a live edge table.
