Crafted circa 1920, these vases exemplify the elegance of the French Art Deco style. Emerging in the 1920s and 1930s, Art Deco was a modern design movement defined by geometric shapes, bold colours, and lavish ornamentation. It reflected the era’s fascination with luxury, technology, and progress, blending traditional craftsmanship with machine-age aesthetics. While the style originated at the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs, the term ‘Art Deco’ itself was coined decades later, in the 1960s.
The vases are made from Sarrancolin marble, shaped into striking geometric, triangular forms and presented on stepped square bases. The marble is beautifully veined, blending rich tones of red with creamy shades to create a visually dynamic surface. Each vase features smaller rectangular elements mounted with patinated bronze, adorned with further geometric motifs. This composition is quintessentially Art Deco, evoking the sunburst motif so strongly associated with the style.
This magnificent pair can serve as flower vases, where vibrant blooms would enhance their geometric design, or, thanks to their durability, function elegantly as Art Deco bookends.
