About the Item

Vase, Koloman Moser, Johann Loetz Witwe for E. Bakalowits' Söhne, Violetta decoration, 1903 Among the most important glass objects from the Lötz manufactory are undoubtedly those from the series created in cooperation with E. Bakalowits Söhne. As a professor at the School of Arts and Crafts in Vienna, Koloman Moser influenced an entire generation of designers and architects. Under his guidance, he and his students created ultra-modern glassware, which today has a firm place in the world's most important museums. This vase, based on a design from 1903, is one of the most technically complex shapes from this period. The handles were pulled out of the hot glass mass and reinserted in order to completely transform the rather massive basic form. The delicate pink "Violetta" decoration further emphasizes the lightness of the design. The combination of these elements ultimately creates a modern glass object that is unique in its effect. Material and technique: glass, mould-blown and freeform, reduced and iridescent Bib.: A. Adlerova, E. Ploil, H. Ricke, T. Vlcek (ed.), Loetz – Böhmisches Glas 1880-1940, vol.
