About the Item

This is "Shigaraki ware". Shigaraki is a historic kiln located in Shiga prefecture, Japan. (The red circle in the image is the Shigaraki kiln) It is said to have originated around the 8th century. There are 6 kilns with a long history in Japan, It is one of them. This is a jar that was burned from the end of the Muromachi period to the Momoyama period (1500-1603), which is older than the Edo period. As a feature of this period, the surface is finished with mud dissolved in water. This method was used to prevent water leaks, etc., and is characterized by the elimination of fine irregularities on the surface and smoothness. However, the surface of this is peeling off in places, and it looks like a polka dot pattern. I think this is a hole made by the air contained in the potter's clay. In addition, the large lump-like irregularities are due to the expansion of the air contained in the potter's clay. Therefore, this is an expressive vase. Overall dark brown to blackish color is very cool. It is a vase that makes you feel wabi-sabi. I want many people to know the goodness of antiques, so the price is set reasonably. Recommended jars! Weight: 4.3kg. "Note" But it is a very old item. If you fill it with water, it may leak from the bottom, so if you want to decorate flowers, put water in another container and put it in the pot.
