Pair of Blue Opaline Glass Horn-Shaped Epergne Vases with Gilded Metal Holders – France, Mid-19th Century (Napoleon III Period) This exceptional pair of horn-shaped epergne vases from the Napoleon III period is crafted from blue overlay opaline glass, featuring beautifully wavy, undulated rims and various shades of light blue/turquoise colour. Created using techniques similar to Murano art glass, these vases reflect the innovation and artistry of 19th-century French opaline glassmaking. The vases are set in gilded metal holders shaped as statues of an oriental couple: a bearded man in traditional attire, and a woman in complementary traditional oriental costume. The attention to detail and quality of the metalwork further enhance the elegance of the vases. This pair represents a fine example of French opaline glass and showcases the high level of craftsmanship achieved by French glass and metal artists of the mid-19th century.
