This is a beautiful antique pair of Taisho Period hand-painted twin handled Noritake porcelain vases, c.1920 in date. They have an attractive and dominant navy-blue background with gilt high lights and feature painted scenes of figures and camels in an Egyptian desert and bearing printed makers marks on the undersides. Instil a certain elegance to a special place in your home with these fabulous vases. Condition: In excellent condition with no dings, dents or signs of repair. Please see photos for confirmation. Dimensions in cm: Height 26 x Width 21 x Depth 17 Dimensions in inches: Height 10 inches x Width 8 inches x Depth 7 inches Noritake Co., Limited is a tableware and technology company headquartered in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. Noritake Co, Limited, commonly known as "Noritake," grew out of a trading company established in Tokyo and in New York City by the Morimura Brothers in 1876. In 1904, key members of this trading company created the Nippon Toki Kaisha, Ltd. in Japan. Noritake's wares were mostly aimed at the European Market. After various mergers the company now comes under the umbrella of the Nippon Toki Kaisha, Ltd. Most of the company’s early wares carried one of the various “Nippon” back stamps to indicate its country of origin when exported to Western markets. Today, many collectors agree that the best examples of “Nippon-era” (1891–1921) hand painted porcelain carry a back stamp used by "Noritake" during the Nippon era. The early marks from this period seems to have been the country of origin i.e Ni hon or "Nippon" written by brush in traditional Japanese Kanji characters. Bottger instead discovered the method of creating porcelain, a favored and valuable item in the king's eyes. The king announced to Europe in 1710 that he would open a porcelain manufactory in Dresden. He instead opened one at nearby Albrechtsburg castle. Espionage was rampant, and the king guarded his porcelain secret, even though it meant imprisoning workers within the castle walls. By 1720, the secret was leaked and porcelain producers popped up in Vienna and Venice. Dresden Porcelain adopted Saxon crossed swords in under-glaze blue as its distinguishing mark.
