About the Item
Antonio Da Ros for Gino Cenedese Sommerso Vase ca. 1960
A vintage Murano glass vase manufactured by Vetreria Gino Cenedese and designed by Antonio da Ros in the 1960s. Wonderful green and grass green sommerso glass. On the base with old Cenedese company sticker.
In 1946, Gino Cenedese founded the company Cenedese Co. with master glassblowers Alfredo Barbini, Gino Fort, Angelo Tosi and Pietro Scaramal. After the partners left the company in 1949, Cenedese worked with freelance designers and artists, including Fulvio Bianconi, Riccardo Licata, Napoleone Martinuzzi, Ermanno Nason and the painter Luigi Scarpa Croce. In 1959 Antonio Da Ros became artistic director. He frequently designed pieces using the Sommerso technique, often with the so-called 'uranium' glass, which shines brightly in ultraviolet light. The manufactory is also known for its aquarium sculptures - large clear glass blocks filled with swimming fish and algae. They were originally designed by Alfredo Barbini and later continued by Riccardo Licata. Gino Cenedese died in 1973. The company is still run today under the name Ars Cenedese.
