George Sowden was born in Leeds, UK in 1942. He studied architecture at Gloucestershire College of Art in the 1960s. He moved to Milano in 1970 where he started working with Ettore Sottsass and Olivetti. In 1981, he was one of the co-founders of the Memphis Group, the design movement that had a significant impact on design aesthetics in the eighties. The same year he founded his design studio Sowden Design, and has since collaborated with numerous world famous companies. George Sowden has received numerous awards.
Post Design is a brand owned by Memphis Srl company. Memphis Milano brand was founded in 1981 by Ettore Sottsass and a group of designers and once ended in 1988, Memphis company decided not to use the same brand for future and new products. While Memphis Milano aimed at the expression of one single language, Post Design brand shows the personality of the single designers, even if many of them were belonging to Memphis Milano, but in a new and multilanguage key. What Sottsass and the other designers wanted to meet under the Post Design brand is a number of collections with its own style and life. It is an ambitious project of open investigation into the future, aimed at opening up new paths and recording changes in progress.

Memphis SRL
Trends are cyclical, and even the ones that distinguish an era find a way of returning back in vogue. Memphis Groups design's are a perfect example of how a movement that had top praise during the 80s, could once again regain its admiration in present day 2020. Memphis Milano is the powerful cultural phenomenon of the 1980s that revolutionized creative and commercial logics in design. Born from the idea of Ettore Sottsass and a group of young designers and architects, in Milan, coupled in the years by famous designers from the international scene, Memphis turned upside down all of the existing parameters on living. Ettore Sottsass as the backbone of the group, design gained a new concept and expression through new shapes, materials and patterns, expanding the creative limits of the industry. Memphis became a symbol of New Design. Its influence is still clear in various sectors of production and beyond.
