About the Item

A compact yet striking example of British Art Deco pottery, this shallow bowl was produced by George Clews Co. in Staffordshire during the 1930s as part of the iconic Chameleon Ware range. Finished in a bold cobalt blue drip glaze, the surface features subtle tonal modulations and inky splotching that speak to the experimental glazes of the period. The bowl’s form is low and rounded, with a gently flared lip and recessed base — lending it a simple, almost modernist presence. Measuring 11.5 cm in diameter and 5.5 cm high, it’s modest in scale yet bold in palette. In very good condition for its age and use, this piece remains free from cracks or major damage. The underside is clearly marked with the Chameleon Ware stamp and form number, confirming its authenticity and place within the Clews studio output. Ideal as a decorative bowl or vide-poche, a jewellery dish in the bedroom, or a standalone collector’s piece.
