About the Item

This Art Deco vase was designed by Karl Wiedmann (1905-1992) for WMF in 1930 ca. It is one of the Ikora art glasses. According to Xenia Riemann in her article on WMF in the catalogue '"Glaskunst of the Bröhan Museum,", page 312, the production of a piece of Ikora glass was started with colourless glass which was then powdered with coloured glass. The craquele surface was achieved by immersion into water. After that the glass was immersed into a nitrate solution which resulted in a net pattern. Riemann writes that the glassmaker had no influence on the chemical processes, so even identical forms of serial productions were one off pieces.
