About the Item
Two-handled bronze vase by GAB (Guldsmedsaktiebolaget), Sweden, crafted in the 1930s. The fluted amphora form shows how Swedish designers reinterpreted classical shapes through an Art Deco lens; streamlined proportions with clean, architectural lines. Cast in bronze with a naturally developed patina in green, bronze, and brown tones. Deceptively heavy for its size, giving it a solid, quality presence. The vase is marked on the base with GAB's makers mark, "Brons" and model number 123.
Founded in Stockholm in 1868, GAB produced some of Sweden's most refined decorative metalwork through the early 20th century. This piece comes from their golden period of the 1920s-30s, when the firm was at the forefront of Swedish Grace - the neoclassical movement that defined Swedish design between the ornate historicism of the 19th century and the functionalism that followed. GAB's bronze work from these decades remains highly collectible for its balance of craftsmanship and restrained elegance.
