Weed Vase with Drip Glaze, American Art Studio Pottery 1980s
Located in Clifton Springs, NY
The striking vintage studio pottery ceramic vase is decorated with free-flowing drip glaze, hand-placed in circular pattern, accentuating the oversized shoulder and small opening, characteristic of the weed vase form. The Modernist shape of the hand-formed vase lends itself to an Organic Modern style decor; the soft palette of pastel green, blue, and pink is supported by the warm off-white tones of the background glaze, and the rim and opening area are accented in bright, crisp white glaze color.
The vase was made by Wizards of Clay, studio pottery in Finger Lakes region of Upstate NY. Since 1962 the family-run studio creates traditional pottery in variety of glazes. The vase is clearly signed and dated on the bottom.
