About the Item

A striking Postmodern art glass vase designed by Colin Terris for Caithness Glass, titled Xanadu and produced in Scotland circa 1990. Sculptural in form and bold in palette, the piece reflects Terris’s influential role in late 20th-century British studio glass and his exploration of expressive, architectonic vessels. The vase presents a triangular body with softly rounded edges, rising with gentle curvature into a flared neck. This interplay of angular geometry and organic flow gives the form a strong yet elegant presence, characteristic of Postmodern design language. Internally cased in white glass, the exterior is executed in richly layered tones of deep purple and cobalt blue. Undulating trails of lilac-hued glass are applied across the surface and encased in clear crystal, creating depth, movement. The layered construction lends both visual complexity and a refined, tactile surface quality. Measuring approximately 22 cm in height, with a width of 10 cm and a depth of 9 cm, the vase is in excellent vintage condition, showing only minimal wear to the base consistent with age and careful handling. An elegant example of late 20th-century British studio glass, this work is well suited as a standalone sculptural object or as part of a curated collection of Postmodern or contemporary art glass.

Turquoise Glass Squat Bottle Vase in Mdina ‘Ming’ Pattern, Signed 1979, Malta
By Mdina, Michael Harris
Located in Glasgow, GB
A rare signed Mdina Glass vase from Malta, dated 1979, exemplifying the studio’s bold aesthetic during its formative years. This decorative squat bottle vase is worked in the celebrated ‘Ming’ pattern, with swirling bands of turquoise blue and deep green glass layered over a base of sparkling golden ochre. The colours twist upward in irregular spirals around the rotund body, forming a richly tactile surface that captures the light beautifully. This form—low, broad, and full-bodied—is less commonly encountered, particularly in this scale. Measuring 16.5 cm in both height and diameter, it’s a commanding example of vintage Mdina glass...
