About the Item
A very stylish Art Nouveau art pottery vase decorated in straked blue glazes made by Derbyshire based Ashby Potters Guild and dating between 1909 and 1922. Founded by Pascoe Tunnicliffe (1881-1956) the pottery was considered as an early form of studio pottery producing more high-end art pottery working with experimental glazes. This finely and lightly made vase is a good example of the potteries production and stands on a narrow-skirted foot with a round bulbous body widening towards top and with a narrow short everted rim set on a flattened top. The vase is decorated in mottled and dripped glazes in contrasting tones of blue with small elements of pale yellow applied over a rich cobalt blue glaze. The vase has impressed ASHBY GUILD marks to the base.
Offered in good condition with very minor glaze firing defects mentioned for accuracy.
