About the Item

Superb Baccarat crystal vase. A masterpiece of French Art Nouveau. Crafted in the late 1800s / early 1900s, it echoes the elegance of a holly tree, its branches and leaves dancing in a delicate, curvilinear rhythm, capturing the essence of nature’s vitality. Some of the few existing copies of this rare vase were chosen to be associated with a metalwork frame decoration by Henry Van de Velde et Andre Debain for La Maison Moderne. Dimensions in cm ( H x L x l) : 14.5 x 12.5 x 8 Very good condition. Secure shipping. Henry Van de Velve was, as was Paul Hankar and Victor Horta, a founder of the Belgian Art Nouveau movement. All of his projects and creations show a profound attachment to the abstract and curvilinear movement of the new style, so different from the French or German naturalistic decoration. With the vase that we are presenting one can recognise his nervous, dynamique style in the curves of the mounting made by Debain.
