About the Item

rare and powerful bronze vase titled “Karahoto no Tsubo” by Ikeda Masuo (1934–1997), one of Japan’s most influential postwar artists, internationally recognized for his work across printmaking, painting, ceramics, sculpture, and literature. This sculptural vessel is cast in bronze and features a bold, expressive form with a richly textured surface and natural patina, characteristic of Ikeda’s later three-dimensional works. The vase conveys a strong architectural presence and sculptural weight, reflecting the artist’s experimental approach to volume and material. The work is signed on the body and is part of a limited edition of only 30 examples. This piece is numbered 7/30, engraved on the base. It is accompanied by its original tomobako (signed wooden box) and an official artist’s certificate/booklet, which includes the title, dimensions, production date, edition number, and a portrait and biography of the artist. According to the accompanying documentation, the work was produced in September 1989 (Heisei 1). Ikeda Masuo represented Japan at the Venice Biennale, received numerous international awards, and is celebrated for pushing the boundaries between fine art and craft. His sculptural works are significantly rarer than his prints and are highly sought after by collectors. This vase comes from a private Japanese collection and is a scarce example of Ikeda’s bronze oeuvre. ⸻ Details • Artist: Ikeda Masuo (池田満寿夫, 1934–1997) • Title: Karahoto no Tsubo • Medium: Cast bronze • Date: September 1989 (Heisei 1) • Edition: Limited edition of 30, numbered 7/30 • Dimensions: • Height: approx. 34 cm • Width: approx. 20–20.7 cm • Depth: approx. 19.8–20 cm • Weight: approx. 6.3–7 kg • Signature: Signed on the body • Accessories: Original signed wooden box (tomobako) and original certificate/booklet

Bronze vase by Lupo Horio¯kami Dimensions: Diameter 20 x height 30 cm Materials: Bronze medium acid “The artwork [...] arises when the mind is willing to accept reality as it was the first time it meets it” (“aesthetics of the void”, g. pasqualotto, marsilio). And if the futurists no longer wanted to have any relationship with the past but to concentrate on the dynamic present, lupo horiokami, with his art, seems to want to focus on the theme of continuous impermanence. East and west in comparison, in a synthesis where space (emptiness) and time (inconsistent) are the masters, where relativity and emptiness (“mu” in zen buddhism) merge with heidegger’s planning of “dasein”. Lupo’s emancipation naturally translates into space. Empty space, in the most eastern sense of the term, devoid of mental conditionings (“mushin” in japanese...
