About the Item

A Brutalist studio pottery vase, hand-built in terracotta, dating to circa 1970s, United Kingdom. Rectangular in form, the vase is decorated with applied circular rings layered along its surfaces, lending sculptural relief and shadow. The tenmoku glaze, a deep iron-rich brown, reveals subtle variations and a softly reflective surface, accentuating the natural irregularities of the clay. In good condition for its age, showing some wear to the bottom corners of the glaze, which sits comfortably within the aesthetic of vintage British studio pottery. Measures 21 cm tall, 7.5 cm wide, and 5.5 cm deep. Signed “T W” to the underside. It is an example of mid-century British studio pottery, restrained yet expressive, and well-suited to collectors of British studio ceramics and interiors favouring sculptural ceramics, Brutalist design, or unique studio pottery vases.
