About the Item

An excellent French Art Nouveau Vase in a classic banjo shape, with a deep red flowering landscape etched and acid cut against a yellow background, with fine color and detail. Rare decor of Begonias. Good quality vase in a classic banjo shape. The workmanship is careful with acid-etching followed by wheel-polishing. This gives the leaves and flowers a sheen, while the background remains matte. Signed Gallé. Mint condition. The banjo shape is one of the most appealing in Gallé vases. Some collectors buy only this shape. This example is an early one, with strong color and crisp, careful detail. The cutting and detail are fine, the color is rich, and the flowers are wheel-polished. Height 16.5 cm Émile Gallé was a French artist and designer who worked in glass and is considered to be one of the major innovators in the French Art Nouveau movement.
