About the Item

Porcelan vase realized by Franz Anton Mehlem in the late 19th Century in Bonn, Germany. Very good condition except for some minor chips in the base. Decorative ceramic vase in the traditional blue-and-white transferware style, featuring intricate grapevine motifs around the body and framed landscape scenes of notable sites along the in . One panel depicts St Goarshauses - Burg Katz , showing the castle perched dramatically above the river with the village below. The other panel shows Schloss Stolzenfels, another famous castle on the Rhine, surrounded by forest and overlooking the water. The background decoration consists of densely packed clusters of grape leaves and grapes, a design often associated with German wine regions. This type of vase was likely made as a souvenir or decorative export piece in the late 19th, when scenes of the romantic Rhine were especially popular. The minor chips at the base are visible in the close-up images.
