About the Item

Blue ceramic vase realized by Franz Anton Mehlem in Bonn (Germany) the late 19th century. Glazed ceramic (faience/earthenware) with cobalt blue transfer print decoration. An elegant tall baluster-form vase richly decorated in cobalt blue and white transfer print. The body is divided into alternating panels: some depicting romantic landscape scenes with trees and rolling hills, others showing ornate floral arrangements in classical urns and lush bouquets with decorative motifs like painter’s palettes and musical instruments. The ground is filled with intricate geometric latticework and small rosettes. The rim and foot feature scalloped decorative borders. Base marked with the crowned shield and initials FAM, the date 1755 (founding year of the factory), and “Bonn Germany”, used by the Franz Anton Mehlem factory until its acquisition by Villeroy Boch in 1920. Very good condition.
