About the Item
Jean Besnard "Primavera" Ceramic Vase {
An extraordinary glazed ceramic vase designed by Jean Besnard (1889–1958) for the Primavera workshop in Paris.
The piece features a globular shape with a narrow neck and a textured surface with an organic relief, coated with a honey and ivory-white glaze that highlights the design's recesses. This textural effect, characteristic of Besnard, achieves a balance between the artisanal and the sculptural, evoking the natural forms that so influenced the French Art Deco movement.
Marked on the base “PRIMAVERA – MADE IN FRANCE”.
Highly collectible, it represents the collaboration between Jean Besnard and the Primavera workshops—founded by the Le Printemps department store chain in 1912—renowned for promoting modern design in French ceramics.

Very nice ceramic vase in the style of Jean Besnard, Vallauris France circa 1940
By Jean Besnard
Located in NICE, FR
This ceramic vase, in the style of Jean Besnard, showcases an elegant hourglass silhouette with a textured, hand-incised surface. The deep matte black glaze is punctuated by a rhythmic pattern of small, elongated indentations revealing the natural clay beneath, creating a striking contrast. The flared rim, subtly glazed with a glossy finish, enhances its sculptural presence. The design is evocative of Besnard’s innovative approach, where texture and form harmonize to produce tactile, visually engaging pieces. This vase embodies the essence of French Art Deco ceramics...
