Signed, stamped on the bottom. Label sticker of the maker. Excellent condition.
Berit Ternell was born in 1929 in Gothenburg and educated at the Swedish Crafts Association's school in the same city, at the same time as Hjördis Oldfors and Lisa Larson. After school she worked as a an intern at Upsala-Ekeby at the decoration studio. She appeared in 1951 with a highly acclaimed exhibition at Artium in Gothenburg. During the 1950s she did a number of works for T G Greens porcelain factory in Burton on Trent in England, glass for Reijmyre, works at Rörstrand and various textile patterns. After a few years at Bobergs Fajansfabrik, Berit came to Gefle Porslinsfabrik in 1957 where she stayed for 15 years. During this time she designed objects at both Gefle and Ekebyfabriken. Berit Ternell was considered modern in her design from the beginning, but was able to combine this with popular shapes and decorations. During the 1960s she was the dominant designer at Gefle after Percy scaled back his business and moved to Öland. In 1967, she was awarded the prestigious "Gulden Vorm" award in Utrecht for her insatiably popular oven-proof series Kosmos. She designed a large number of objects for the Ekeby (Upsala-Ekeby) factory in the late 1960s. Berit went on to the School of industrial Arts in Gothenburg, where she taught for 20 years. Berit Ternell is one of the recipients of scholarships from the Anna-Lisa Thomson foundation. She has had several solo exhibitions.
