About the Item
An impressive and opulent Chinese powder blue glazed porcelain rouleau vase with gilt painted decoration, very Late Qing Dynasty, circa 1900, China.
The vase glazed in a deep and rich cobalt blue, known as powder blue, and boldly painted in sumptuous gilding with a dense design of stylized scrolling lotus blossoms and leaves centered around a ruyi shaped pendant hung with tassels.
The sharp shoulders with reserves painted with images of attributes of the Eight Immortals. Only four attributes are present, indicating this vase was originally one of a pair. The next with further lotus blossoms. A band of stylized lotus petals decorates the base of the vase.
The vase of typical rouleau form, known as a bangchiuping, with a tall and slim cylindrical body rising straight up to high, angled shoulders, and a wide neck with a rolled mouth rim and slightly cupped mouth.
The vase sits upon a raised and recessed foot. The interior of the foot rim with a simple double circle mark in underglaze blue on a white glazed ground.
