About the Item
A stunning and rare British mid-century art pottery floral molded vase by renowned artist Clarence E Blackburn (British, 1914-1984) dated 1951.
Clarence E Blackburn was a painter, print maker, commercial artist and potter who studied at Burslem College of Art. She was a renowned artist showing work at the Royal Academy and ran a small pottery between 1944 and 1959.
This stunning vase is a wonderful example produced in 1951. The ceramic vase stands on a wide skirted base and is of tall bulbous shape with a simple narrow round opening to the top. The body of the vase is decorated with incised patterning of a busy scene of floral designs set amidst a leafy ground. The vase has been hand painted in tones of red and black within brown painted outlines against the cream-colored body of the vase. The vase is signed C.E. Blackburn to the base and is hand dated 1951.
Provenance: Acquired in the British Art Market.
In good condition with wear associated with age and use.
