About the Item
Artist/Designer; Manufacturer: Ken Price (American, 1935-2012)
Marking(s); notes: label
Materials: ceramic
Dimensions (H, W, D): 19"h, 6.5"dia
Additional Information: "Price studied under Peter Voulkos at the Los Angeles Art Institute. While Price’s ceramics are better understood as stylistically post-modern rather than Abstract Expressionist, he learned from Voulkos a dedication to the craft, resulting in a large body of surviving work. As Price’s work matured it showed little direct reference to the work of his teacher." (source: themarksproject)
Provenance Information: From the previous owner of the piece- "My father, Burton Frasher Jr. was a prolific photographer known for his captivating picture postcards. My dad, as well as my grandfather before him, was the official photographer for the LA County Fair for many, many years. He systematically photographed various aspects of the fair, including Fine Arts exhibits. When Millard Sheets suddenly resigned as director of the Fine Arts Building on September 5, 1957 my father stepped in and assisted Paul Lauritz in setting up the art competition displays in the Fine Arts Building for the fair that opened on October 17, 1957. After the 1957 fair season ended on October 21, 1957, Ken Price gave my father the ceramic vase that he had entered in the competition that year. I just recently found the vase as I was unpacking boxes in storage."
