About the Item
This sculptural, hand-painted ceramic vase is an evocative example of Elio Schiavon’s highly collectible à la palette work.
The piece features a male figure rendered in expressive brushstrokes. The graphic black-on-ivory palette accentuates the vase’s strong architectural silhouette and its sculptural presence.
Elio Schiavon (born 1925 in Arzergrande, Padua) trained at the renowned Nove School of Ceramic Art before founding his own workshop, Studio Schiavon Ceramiche, in Padua in 1954. His work from the 1950s and 1960s is celebrated for its imaginative forms, painterly surfaces, and unmistakable artistic identity. The signature Schiavon confirms authorship and places the piece firmly within the tradition of mid-century Italian studio ceramics prized for their craftsmanship and unique expressive character.
The designation à la palette refers to the graphic style that became one of Schiavon’s most recognizable hallmarks.
This vase stands as a striking, collectible example of Italian mid-century ceramic art, ideal for connoisseurs of studio pottery
