About the Item

Emile Gallé “Clematites” Cameo Glass Vase, Nancy, 1904–1906 Dimensions: Height 9 cm; Diameter 10 cm A rare museum-quality trilobe vase by Emile Gallé, showcasing botanical mastery and Art Nouveau innovation. This exquisite piece, titled “Clematites”, was created in Gallé’s Nancy atelier between 1904 and 1906, according to the star-accompanied signature. Formed from clear glass infused with dense white, yellow, and ochre pigment powder inclusions, the vase is overlaid in deep violet and decorated in multiple phases of acid etching. Embossed clematis tendrils and leaves emerge in high relief, capturing the lyrical movement and organic elegance emblematic of Gallé’s late period. Motif: Clematis tendrils and leaves Cameo glass with pigment inclusions and violet overlay in multi-phase acid etching with high-relief botanical motifs Signature: Etched “Gallé” with star on the back, confirming authenticity and dating This trilobe vase exemplifies Gallé’s commitment to craftsmanship and poetic naturalism. The clematis motif—symbolic of mental beauty and artistic aspiration, unfolds across the surface with sculptural precision. The interplay of translucent layers and saturated overlay evokes a twilight garden, rich in texture and nuance. A signed, period-authenticated work from one of the leading figures of the École de Nancy. Ideal for collectors of Art Nouveau glass and botanical symbolism.
