About the Item

An uncommon and early ceramic vase by Ettore Sottsass for Bitossi, comprising a red-clay vessel in a white glaze with brush-applied, polychrome geometric decoration. This particular decorative motif would become Sottsass’ branding/logo design for the 1957 XI Triennale and was also used for a carpet design (please refer to the last three images from a 1963 issue of the architecture and design journal, Zodiac). Signed to the underside with “Italy” and the vase model number/height. 1955. Literature: Fulvio, Ferrari. Sottsass: 1000 Ceramics. Ad Arte, 2017, p. 24 Santini, Pier Carlo. "Introduction to Ettore Sottsass, Jr." Zodiac, no. 11, 1963, pp. 88, 91-93
