About the Item

A truly exceptional and monumentally scaled Argenta vase/floorvase, hand-thrown by Wilhelm Kåge for Gustavsberg, Sweden, circa 1930s. Measuring 35 cm (13.8 in) in height and 27 cm (10.6 in) in width, and weighing an extraordinary 6–7 kg (13–15 lbs), this is one of the largest and rarest known examples from the iconic Argenta series — a true collector’s trophy. Expertly crafted in hand-thrown stoneware, this vase features Gustavsberg’s celebrated emerald green crackle glaze, inlaid with genuine sterling silver. The central motif — a mythical mermaid-like figure reaching toward a bird and stylized botanical elements — showcases Kåge’s deep artistic roots in Scandinavian symbolism and modernist form. Marked on the underside with "Handdrejad" (hand-thrown), the Argenta designation, Gustavsberg’s anchor hallmark, and Kåge’s signature, this piece is not a production model but a studio-grade object, likely created for exhibition or prominent private commission. Very few Argenta vases of this size and quality were ever made, and even fewer survive in this condition.
