About the Item
Decorative numbered vase Émaux of Longwy. French glazed art pottery, flowers on a blue background, hand-painted enameled.
The Longwy pottery factory has been in existence since the end of the 18th century.
Thanks to a visit from Napoleon I, its reputation grew throughout the 19th century.
Around 1870, at the height of the Orientalist era and in response to growing imports from Japan and China, the director of the Mikado factories, Italian Amédée de Carenza, was brought to Longwy, bringing with him his exclusive ideas: taking as his model the metallic enamels found in China and Japan, de Carenza imagined their ceramic equivalent: the first Longwy enamels were born and their reputation grew.
This vase is the direct heir to these techniques and skills.
