About the Item
From the French faiencerie Five-Lille de Bruyn, a pair of Art Nouveau floral form posy vases, circa 1890.
The majolica glazed barbotine vases are modeled as a blooming trumpet vine flower. The body of the vase is a yellow and purple flower opening to hold a fresh cut posy bouquet. The vase has a footing of green leaves with a twining, tightly closed bud. Delicately molded, brightly glazed, the pair are superb.
Showing the mark of Gustave de Bruyn, Fives Lille. Gustave de Bruyn moved from Belgium to Fives-Lille in Northern France in 1864, where he began to produce barbotine pitchers, planters, and vases. In 1889 De Bruyn was awarded a medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris.
The vases are hand molded and vary slightly in size:
6.75 in. Height x 5.25 in. Diameter
6.25 in. Height x 5.75 in. Diameter.

Vine Pitchers, a Pair
By Minton
Located in Philadelphia, PA
Attributed to Minton pottery in Staffordshire, England, a scarce sized set of majolica glazed pitchers in the Palissy style, circa 1870s.
The Aesthetic Period pitchers are molded with a raised nut vine pattern with leaves in light and dark green, and closed buds. The vine handle is ‘held’ in place with green shoots, the tight buds are glazed in cream encased in light spring green leaves. The body is finished in an iridescent brown, the interior in a beautiful turquoise. A turquoise glazed underside.
The larger jug is impressed with the number two, possibly referring to size, as this is the middle size of what would have been a set of three graduated pitchers...
