About the Item
This 1924 green glass vase was designed by Wolfgang von Wersin for Tiroler Glashtte, an early and refined example of Austrian Art Deco glassware. Crafted from vibrant emerald green glass, the vase reflects Wersin’s sensitivity to historical form and modernist restraint.
The silhouette is modelled after a 15th-century Berkemeyer drinking vessel, reinterpreted here in a minimalist trumpet vase profile. The flared mouth opens dramatically above a compact circular base, while the surface is decorated with evenly spaced, hand-applied glass punts. These rounded glass projections recall the grip-enhancing motifs of medieval glass, but in this context serve a purely decorative purpose—offering both tactile and visual intrigue.
Wolfgang von Wersin, known for his affiliations with the Wiener Werkstätte and his influence on Central European applied arts in the interwar period, brought historical references into harmony with modern design ideals. This vase exemplifies his commitment to craftsmanship and proportion, and is representative of 1920s Austrian design.

Green Opaline Jadeite Glass Trumpet Vase, Empoli Italy, 1960s
By Stelvia, Empoli
Located in Glasgow, GB
An elegant pale green opaline glass trumpet vase, attributed to Stelvia of Empoli, Italy, likely produced as part of the Opalina Fiorentina range, circa 1960s. This mid-century vase is a fine example of jadeite glass—a softly translucent type of opaline glassware popularised by Stelvia and echoed in the work of Murano glassmakers during the same period.
Handblown in mint green opaline glass, the vase features a classical trumpet silhouette: a flared conical body tapering into a rounded base, poised on a slender stem with a gently splayed foot. The opaline surface captures ambient light beautifully, producing a softly luminous, milky glow characteristic of the Stelvia opaline glass from this era.
Measuring 18 cm in height and 12 cm in diameter, the vase is in very good vintage condition. A single, pinpoint chip to the outer rim is visible only under close inspection and has been clearly documented in photographs. There are no cracks, repairs, or clouding to note.
It works beautifully as a standalone glass accent or grouped with other Italian opaline glass vessels in complementary pastel shades such as lilac, baby blue, or alabaster. A timeless piece for collectors of vintage Italian glassware...

Victorian Green Glass Thorn Vase with Sterling Silver Rim, Czech, circa 1890s
By John Walsh Walsh, Kralik Glassworks
Located in Glasgow, GB
A late Victorian thorn vase in green art glass, likely produced in Czechoslovakia circa 1890s, attributed to the Kralik glassworks. The piece features a rounded, organic base that narrows into a slender neck, with the entire form encased in applied thorn-like protrusions—each individually manipulated by hand to create a tactile, botanical surface.
The rim is fitted with a hallmarked sterling silver collar, added in England upon import—typical of the period, when Bohemian glass was embellished for the British market. The marks are visible and legible, offering provenance and adding to its historical appeal.
This vase evokes stylistic parallels with the thorn glass...
