Important Flared Vase in Thick Mauve Glass - Daum Nancy
Creation Date: 1942-1943
Materials: Thick mauve glass, acid-etched design, granulated background, gilded highlights
Dimensions: H: 51.5 cm
Signature: "Daum Nancy France", dedicated: "M. Pierre Bernard remise en culture Meuse 1942-1943"
This flared thick mauve glass vase, signed Daum Nancy, features an acid-etched reserve decoration of stylized foliage motifs on a granulated background, enhanced with gilded details. A truly exceptional piece, showcasing the unmatched craftsmanship of Daum.
History:
The story of the Daum glassworks began in 1871, when Jean Daum, a notary, settled in Nancy and acquired a modest glass factory. His son, Antonin Daum, soon took over the business, refining the glass paste technique and producing masterpieces that perfectly embodied the Art Nouveau movement.
Recognition from the artistic community was swift, and Daum’s delicate and refined creations were awarded at the Universal Exhibitions between 1894 and 1897.
Henri Bergé, the master decorator and second major artist of the house, joined Daum in 1896. In 1897, he succeeded Jacques Grüber as head decorator of the artistic department, established in 1891. Unlike his predecessor, Bergé dedicated his entire career to glasswork and remained at Daum until his retirement in 1932.
