About the Item

A sculptural handblown glass vase in the form of a female torso, crafted in Murano, Italy, circa 1980s. The piece features an elegant marbled pattern in crisp white with flowing dark brown tones, appearing almost black, that swirl fluidly across the curvaceous body. This refined monochromatic palette highlights the sculptural form while showcasing the expressive glassmaking techniques and experimental spirit of Murano studios in the late 20th century. Tall and substantial, this vase has a strong presence and weight, making it ideal for displaying tall floral arrangements. The opening measures approximately 2 inches across, adding functionality to its sculptural appeal. The elongated silhouette, with its cinched waist and softly contoured shoulders, conveys a sense of movement and elegance, allowing the piece to function equally as a decorative object or a collectible work of glass art. Comparable torso-form marbled Murano vases from the same period are well documented; this example is unsigned, consistent with many studio productions of the era. Excellent vintage condition, with no chips or cracks. Please note the apple shown in the photo is for scale. A striking statement piece well suited for mid-century modern, postmodern, and eclectic interiors. Be sure to explore our other listings for additional Murano and distinctive glass works. As with all our pieces, this vase will be carefully packed and shipped within 24–48 hours. Check our listings for more Murano finds.

Large Italian Glazed Terracotta Zebra Statue – Mid-Century, 1960s
Located in Toronto, CA
An exceptional and rare large Italian terracotta zebra sculpture, crafted in the 1960s and evocative of the bold and playful charm of mid-century Italian design. This vintage zebra statue is made from hand-molded terracotta, beautifully glazed in classic black and ivory tones that highlight the animal’s iconic stripes. The sculpture depicts a zebra resting gracefully on the ground, its form stylized yet expressive, with refined contours and a gently turned head that add a serene presence. Heavily influenced by the whimsical and artistic ceramic trends popular in Italy during the mid-20th century, this piece is reminiscent of the decorative animal sculptures produced in regions like Montebello and Deruta, known for their artisanal terracotta and pottery work. The surface features a glossy glaze that enhances the depth of the black and white palette while revealing subtle terracotta tones peeking through in some areas—adding warmth and character. It is a substantial and heavy piece, indicative of its solid terracotta construction. No chips or cracks are present, though there are minor surface marks and glaze imperfections consistent with age and original craftsmanship, which only add to its authentic vintage charm. Whether placed as a statement piece on a console, within a gallery wall, or styled in a maximalist interior, this Italian zebra sculpture...
