About the Item
This ancient ceramic jar was once used as a storage container in Japanese homes and merchant houses.
It is coated with a deep, lustrous black glaze, which has developed a subdued luster and crazing over time. Its soft, rounded form and the beautiful, gentle curves from the shoulder to the rim give it a tranquil presence despite its practical use.
The lid is made of wood and is traditionally tied with rope to enhance its airtightness. The wooden lid shows cracks and wear over time, revealing the jar's history along with traces of its past.
