About the Item
This is a very old ceramic vase made in Japan.
It was made in the Edo period (1860s-1860s).
It is called Shigaraki ware in Japan.
This large vase was used to hold and carry tea leaves.
Due to its use over time, it has taken on an air of decadence.
Very fortunately, this vase is in beautiful condition with no cracks.
Please note that it cannot be filled with water.
This pottery evokes the spirit of wabi-sabi, the Japanese philosophy of finding beauty in imperfection and impermanence.
It is understated, humble, unconventional, and the opposite of vulgarity.
Unique and extremely rare.
Since ancient times, people have created and inherited necessary tools from familiar materials to survive in the severe struggle against nature, and have nurtured a lifestyle culture.
As they are used over time, they accumulate flavor and reflect a way of life.
In today's world, where cheap and disposable products are encouraged, the act of repeatedly modifying and re-creating the things around us opens up a new world.
With this philosophy in mind, we have carefully selected beautiful, powerful, and unique items.
For generations, Japanese artisans have created and handed down daily-use furniture from natural materials, embodying wisdom and resilience in harmony with nature. Through years of use, such objects acquire a unique patina and presence, a quiet testimony to the lives they have accompanied.
In an era defined by mass production and disposability, the act of restoring and reusing such pieces holds profound meaning. It reminds us of the enduring value of craftsmanship and the deep connection between people and the objects that enrich their lives.
With this philosophy, we carefully select and preserve exceptional antiques from Japan, celebrating their timeless beauty and cultural significance.
