Japanese Franklin Porcelain “The Meadowland Bird” Vase
Designed by Basil Ede (1931–2016), 1980
An elegant oval-form porcelain vase produced by Franklin Porcelain, Japan, titled “The Meadowland Bird.” Designed in 1980 by renowned British wildlife artist Basil Ede, the vase features his characteristic finely detailed avian imagery. The piece is finished with a 22-carat gold rim and is factory-marked on the underside. It is presented on its original circular wooden stand.
An identical example was offered at Sotheby's, England, Lot 1711, on 12 September 2023.
About the Artist
Basil Ede (1931–2016) was an acclaimed English wildlife painter celebrated for his highly realistic and meticulously observed bird studies. A founding member of the Society of Wildlife Artists and an active supporter of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, Ede earned international recognition for his dedication to avian portraiture and conservation.
